An Examination of Romans 12:1-2 in the Context of Contemporary Christianity To anchor this, I would like to tell us this illustrative example as provided through a reflection on a statement made by a teacher from my teen days in church. She said that "our hearts are akin to empty vessels that must be filled, as they can never remain vacant. It is filled with either the spirit of God or the devil". We being born into sin, we then become born again by accepting Jesus as our Lord and Savior and thus beginning the ousting of the devil out of our life. So they, the process which involves the renewing of our minds. How then can we stand when we confirm to the world. However, this objective becomes increasingly difficult if conformity to worldly standards persists. Many youths have begun to miss it thinking that we can incorporate a diluted version of the world into our lives as Charles of God. The alteration of secular song lyrics or the incorporation of phrases such as "Hallelujah" or "glory to God" does not inherently sanctify a song. Furthermore, the inclusion of instrumentals and beats extracted from secular songs does not enhance the spiritual atmosphere within a worship service. Yes, it might fuel the atmosphere but after the gyration, it all ends there. As the church begins to conform to secular influences, the question arises: how can our minds undergo transformation if we remain inconsistent in our spiritual practices? Such musical choices may evoke responses that diverge from the true source of inspiration, thereby creating a spiritual vacuum that allows the adversary to gain a foothold. It is crucial to acknowledge that, despite the availability of more tools for disseminating the gospel, the church has begun to conform to secular norms, thereby compromising its steadfastness. Those who have committed themselves to Christ are regarded as holy and acceptable to the Lord. Therefore, it is pertinent to question why we would seek worldly means to worship and praise our God. Are we implying that, as children of God, we lack inspiration? Never!!! It is know that there are various genres of music and so therefore, we can sing to the Lord in various styles but, we are not changing their lyrics to soothe our worship not their grooves to our dance. Rather, let us make them dance to our groves and sing to our songs to the glory of his name to whichever genre we decide. In conclusion, it is my prayer that the Lord grants us guidance in this endeavor, enabling us to remain steadfast in our faith while effectively engaging with contemporary culture.
